Curtis here….
I am so glad you made it to my blog! I find it weird when people ramble about themselves on these so I’ll keep this short.
Over the past 7 years, I have lost over 125 lbs and have since made it my life’s mission to help others achieve similar success.
My mission is to help others eliminate their struggle with weight and experience the benefits of living a healthy life both physically and mentally.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve struggled with my weight. I was always considered the ‘husky’ kid in my grade. I was almost always the heaviest, but I never wanted to admit it to myself.
I led a very happy life despite my weight problem as a child. I had a loving family and plenty of friends in grade school and throughout high school. Mentally, I would say that I was fine, but physically my health was declining.
It wasn’t until college that my weight started to become a more serious problem. It wasn’t until I began to notice the physical toll that being obese was having on my body that I became aware of the problem at hand. Shortly, after college I moved out with my cousin and decided to take back my own health.
Being obese comes with many physical limitations. I wasn’t able to run, walking easily winded me. Walking up the stairs sometimes was challenging. These day-to-day tasks became harder than they should have been.
I knew that I had a weight problem, but I had previously tried other ‘diets’ with little to no success. This left me with a feeling that I was destined to be heavy forever.
When I graduated college my weight reached its peak, 322 lbs. The highest weight I ever remember recorded. By BMI standards I was morbidly obese and well on my way to developing many of the health complications that come with obesity.
It wasn’t until I realized the negative complications that I wanted to make a change.
If I wanted to live a long and healthy life, without disease and burden, I needed to change now.
The takeaway from this story is going to be my weight loss. I get that, it was life changing, at 125 lbs. But surprisingly the rest of my life stayed pretty much the same after I lost the weight.
It wasn’t until after my extreme weight loss that I began to realize the root cause of my weight problem and how I had been using food as an emotional suppressant.
With my weight loss, I had formed new habits of going to the gym to address my mental struggles and stress. In addition instead of using unhealthy food to suppress, I turned to healthy foods. I had created lasting behavior change by forming new coping mechanisms to help with my mental health along with my physical health.
Once I realized how I had made lasting change I quickly started learning how I could help others do the same. I was reading everything I could no psychology of food and weight loss. I knew that if I wanted to really help people I would need to return to school to become a licensed Dietitian. That would allow me to safely help others achieve freedom from food and their unhealthy habits.
As I go on my journey to optimize my health and happiness, I hope to help as many people as I can to do the same.
I am by no means a perfect individual. But, I spend each and every day trying to be better physically and mentally to try and lead a more fulfilling life.
I’m now in a new career as a Registered Dietitian who through sustainable behavior change evokes positive lifestyle transformations for my clients. I have a Masters Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and I hope to share the tools, skills, and strategies I’ve learned to help you with your weight loss goals.
Years ago I worked in Information Technology and realized I just didn’t have a passion for it. I decided to change career directions and pursue what I was passionate about and that is to help people lose weight and KEEP it off for good WITHOUT using fad diets or food restrictions.
I have been lucky enough to have experienced life before and after extreme weight loss and for that reason I hope to help others find a life of balance in achieving their weight loss goals.
The way I view nutrition can be summarized by saying: that absolutely NO foods are off-limits. And the best “diet” is the one YOU are able to stick with. That’s all.
I’m not in the business of selling you detox tea’s, wraps, or 21-day cleanses to help you lose weight and feel your best. Most of the information that you hear out there is complete garbage. And most are due to people trying to sell you things you don’t need.
I’m not here to sell you on anything but what science says works. I give you all my best content and advice for FREE. People pay me for the custom approach and for help in applying the knowledge I give them.
APPLY the knowledge.
