Insurance

Do you want to lose weight and meet with a registered dietitian but cannot afford nutritional services?

Why not check to see if your insurance policy will cover the visits?

Read the information below to learn the steps to take to see if your insurance will cover the cost of nutrition counseling for weight loss.

What insurance companies does Hint of Nutrition participate with?

At the present time, Hint of Nutrition is in network with BCBS, United Healthcare, MVP, Independent Health, Cigna, and Medicare.

What happens if you do not participate with my insurance?

Even if Hint of Nutrition does not accept your insurance, I always encourage you to check with your carrier to verify if you have any out-of-network coverage. If your insurance provides out-of-network coverage for nutritional counseling, I am happy to set you up with the appropriate paperwork for you to submit to them directly for reimbursement. Curtis cannot submit directly on your behalf – he can only supply you with the appropriate paperwork.

What if I only have 2 covered visits, am I still eligible for the nutrition programs?

Yes, these visits will get deducted from the total price of the program.

What questions should I ask when calling my insurance company?

You should ask your insurance company ALL of the following questions:

  • Do I have nutritional counseling coverage on my insurance plan?
    • If the insurance company asks for a CPT code please provide them with the following number (97802).
  • Will my diagnosis be covered?
    • Diagnosis codes range depending on what you’re meeting with a dietitian for but often include Z71.3 This code is used for preventative coverage when medically necessary. Many insurance companies provide unlimited nutrition visits as long as it is coded as preventative!
  • How many visits do I have per calendar year?
  • Have I met my deductible?
  • Do I have a co-pay for nutritional counseling?
